The name Saathi is derived from the fact that it is harvested in 60 days and sixty is called “saath” in hindi. It is grown in waterlogged wastelands since it gobbles water from low lying lands and also prepares the land for other crops. These have a reddish hue and have the rice germ intact along with containing high nutritional value.
Saathi rice have ample amount of antioxidants, phytonutrients, phytochemicals, vitamin E, protein, iron and a lot of other nutrients. Their color is due to the presence of Anthocyanin which are a group of naturally occurring pigments that impart a reddish blue color to some grains.
This specific type of rice is used in Shastik Shali Pinda Sweda or Potli Karma which is a great Panchakarma therapy for the skin.
