Greeva Vasti consists of two words, Greeva (neck) and Basti (to hold). It is a Panchakarma therapy which is beneficial for discomforts related to the neck, shoulders, and spine. It works through Snehana (lubrication) and swedana (sweating). Stiffness, muscular spasm in the shoulders and neck, cervical spondylosis, sprains etc are a few ailments which can be effectively treated with greeva vasti. Sedentary lifestyles, incorrect postures, poor digestion, dosha imbalance are a few factors which contribute to giving rise to numerous ailments. Toxin deposition contributes to worsening the condition further. A coated tongue says a lot about your health, coating on the tongue signifies the amount of toxins in your body. Panchakarma therapies detoxify and rejuvenate the body. Getting rid of the toxins automatically improves your health and strengthens your body.


The patient is made to lie down on their stomach. Dry massage on the neck and shoulders is done to relax the stiff muscles. A dough of gram flour is rolled out in the shape of a hollow pit and sealed on the nape of the neck. After the pit is thoroughly sealed, warm medicated oil is slowly poured in it. The key here is to keep the temperature of the oil constant. This process is done for 30 minutes and then the oil is drained out of the pit followed by a light massage of the affected area.
